According to the City of Ottawa, city staff doesn’t have the resources to enforce ‘school streets’. Neither does Ottawa Police. Advocates for these streets say not enough heavy-lifting is being done. Meantime, Quebec’s dairy industry has been advocating to recognize cheese curds as a controlled designation. On the surface, this type of poutine protectionism seems old-fashioned. However, there are serious implications for a crowd of excluded Ontario businesses that make their own cheese curds.
