Canadian sailor wanted for sex crimes against minor may have taken to sea: FBI

March 11, 2026

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is offering a reward for information leading to the capture of a Canadian man wanted for sexual offenses against a minor in Idaho, who is believed to be sailing around the Pacific Ocean.

The FBI is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of 62-year-old Donald Steven Lang, a Canadian citizen who was charged in Idaho on April 9, 2025 with three counts of lewd conduct with a minor under 16 and one count of sexual battery of a minor. The alleged abuse occurred in Kootenai County between 2003 and 2007.

According to the FBI, Lang was last seen on his sailboat, ISHI, in Hawaii in January 2025. He is known to sail around the world, but Hawaii is his “home base.” In addition to sailing, he is known to take “odd jobs” like fixing boats.

“He may be sailing somewhere between Hawaii and Fiji, Hawaii and Mexico, towards Papua New Guinea, or possibly Indonesia,” the FBI said. “He has ties to, or knows people in, Hawaii, Idaho, Washington State, California, Fiji, Marquesas Islands, Mexico, and Canada.”

The agency shared several photos of Lang, ranging from clean-shaven to a long, full beard. They also shared images of his sailboat. Lang is described as having multiple tattoos, including a faded conch shell with the word “captain” above it on his right arm.

Anyone with information is asked to contact their local FBI field office or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate.
