Suspect shot by Vaughan homeowner in custody after he was dropped off at Toronto-area hospital: police
A man who was dropped off at a Toronto-area hospital after being shot and wounded during an armed home invasion in Vaughan, Ont., is now in custody , police say, adding that he was wanted for numerous other violent offences.
A man identified as Trestin Cassanova-Alman, 24, of no fixed address, has been charged with robbery with a firearm and disguise with intent in relation to the March 17 home invasion. He is also charged with breach of probation order, as he was on an outstanding probation order for unrelated offences at the time of the home invasion.
On Tuesday at about 12:50 a.m., police said they responded to reports of a shooting at a residence in the area of Carrville Woods Circle and Crimson Forest Drive in Vaughan, Ont. When they arrived at the scene, police learned that several suspects, armed with at least one firearm, had forced their way into the residence.

Police said an occupant of the home used a legally owned and properly stored firearm to fire at the suspects, causing them to flee. The suspects were seen getting into a black pick-up truck which fled the scene before police arrived. “We’re thankful that the occupants of the home were not physically injured,” police said in a statement.
A few hours later, York Regional Police were notified that a male had been dropped off at a Toronto-area hospital with a gunshot wound. Investigators determined he had been shot during the home invasion and was dropped off shortly afterwards.
In a video posted to X, a York police officer described the case against Cassanova-Alman, adding: “You might recognize his name though, as he was wanted for numerous violent offences in relation to Project Wrangler.”
He continued: “Back in December of 2025, we announced that Project Wrangler was a joint forces operation that dismantled a violent criminal group operating in Ontario and Quebec. Multiple people were charged, but Trestin remained outstanding.

On Wednesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford weighed in on the matter during a press conference.
“Congratulations,” he said when asked if he any remarks for the homeowner who fired at the invaders. “Yeah, I’m glad you shot the guy.” He added: “Should have shot him a couple more times as far as I’m concerned.”
