Hotels in Newfoundland and Labrador are being trained to recognize human trafficking — criminal activity that officials say despite a lack of cases, is in fact present in the province.

Quebec coroner Stéphanie Gamache will lead a public inquiry into the deaths of five unhoused people, which took place over the past seven months in Montreal. The city’s mayor, who was in tears in late March while announcing the deaths of two people experiencing homelessness, says the final report will include recommendations for authorities aimed at preventing such occurrences.
