It follows a California jury's conclusion that the social media giants designed their platforms to hook younger users without concern for their well being. And now, Wednesday's verdict in a first-of-its-kind lawsuit could influence the outcome of thousands of others that are similar in nature - accusing social media companies of deliberately causing harm. Florian Martin-Bariteau, an Associate Professor of Law at UOttawa, unpacks the legal precedents on today's Ottawa Now.
