Ottawa Now - OC Transpo has a new General Manager

March 27, 2026

Following an extensive search, a former CEO of the Toronto Transit Commission has been chosen to lead OC Transpo. Rick Leary was officially introduced as the new General Manager of Transit Services on Friday, while interim leader Troy Charter remains in the front-office picture. City Manager Wendy Stephanson says that Leary possesses all the right qualifications to get Ottawa’s LRT back on track. He spent 10 years with the TTC, including 7 years as its CEO, before stepping aside in 2024 with 2 years left on his deal. Prior to his time in Toronto, he held executive positions with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and York Region Transit. What’s the confidence level at City Hall right now? Kristy Cameron checks in with Alta Vista councillor Marty Carr and Stittsville councillor Glen Gower. Both sit on Ottawa’s Transit Committee, with the latter serving as the Committee Chair.
