Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Thurs. April 23rd, 2026

April 23, 2026

Education Minister Paul Calandra says today’s students need practical and real-world skills, including how to manage money and budgets. But instead of adding Financial Literacy as its own main course within the Grade 10 Mathematics curriculum, it will remain inside the Grade 10 Career Studies curriculum, with a mandatory test attached to it. Kristy Cameron digs deeper with Dwayne Matthews, an education and learning strategist at TomorrowNow. Meantime, Ottawa’s Public Works and Infrastructure Committee has received an update as to how the municipality has responded to Ontario’s speed camera purge. CFRA’s Andrew Pinsent delivers the details in Hour 1. But first, we bring you up to speed on today’s top headlines.
