Vacancies in Canada’s Senate are growing and some senators are concerned

There are currently nine vacant seats in the Senate, with six more senators due to retire by the end of 2026. Prime Minister Mark Carney has not appointed any since taking office.
It’s been six months since the government wrapped up fast-tracked consultations on the strategy — Solomon initially promised it would be tabled by the end of last year.
