Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Tues. May 5th, 2026

May 5, 2026

Candidates have begun registering for Ottawa’s Municipal Election, which is scheduled for late-October. Last Friday was the formal campaign kickoff – the first day where candidates could file their nomination papers. As of right now, we know that Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe is showcasing the intent to run, but his papers haven’t been filed yet. At least a trio of names will be opposing him, and one of them joins us in Hour 2. That would be Alex Lawson, who owns a home framing company. Meantime, we are learning more about the Hantavirus outbreak onboard a Dutch cruise ship, where 3 passengers have died and 3 others are seriously ill. Here with the details is Dr. Lisa Barrett, a Halifax-based infectious disease specialist. Plus, Canada’s new Governor General has been named by Prime Minister Carney. She is Louise Arbour, a former Supreme Court Justice. We get the 4-1-1 from CTV political analyst Scott Reid.
