Ontario's chief medical officer of health says Ontario residents with hantavirus showing no symptoms

May 8, 2026
Ontario's chief medical officer of health says two Ontario residents who were on a cruise ship with passengers infected with hantavirus are showing no symptoms while isolating in their rural community in the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit area. Dr. Kieran Moore says there is very little risk to the general public. He wants to reassure people that this is not a repeat of the COVID-19 pandemic, though officials are applying lessons learned, especially when it comes to communication and coordination.
