Get active and celebrate Ottawa 200

May 12, 2026
Sports 200. Two days. Everyone plays.

Participate in an active celebration of Ottawa’s 200th anniversary by trying various free sporting activities on the weekend of Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7.

Sports 200 is a city-wide, two-day event hosted in partnership between the City of Ottawa and the Ottawa Sport Council. Starting today, residents and their families can visit ottawa.ca/sports200 to view the complete listing of free sporting and recreation activities. Residents will be able to reserve a spot for one or more activities.

Additional sessions will be added until May 22, so be sure to check back to see what's new. Activities will be offered at various community sport sites across Ottawa, including select City recreation facilities and the RA Centre, located at 2431 Riverside Drive.

Some of the featured sports and recreation activities include:

  • Artistic swimming
  • Australian football
  • Boxing
  • Canoeing
  • Dance
  • Rugby
  • Running
  • Soccer
  • Squash
  • Table tennis
  • Ultimate frisbee
  • Wheelchair basketball
  • Zumba

Participants may discover a new sporting activity that they will want to pursue, or reconnect with an activity they’ve enjoyed in the past. Coaches, instructors and volunteers will be on hand at each activity to provide support and guidance on the rules, skills and techniques.

This active celebration also coincides with National Health and Fitness Day on Saturday, June 6, and the month-long ParticipACTION Community Challenge. Communities from across Canada compete throughout June to inspire the most people to get physically active. When residents reserve a spot in an activity, their participation will be automatically counted toward the challenge. What better way to celebrate Ottawa’s 200th anniversary than by capturing the title of Canada’s most active community.

The event is the same weekend as Doors Open Ottawa so it’s the perfect time to get out, explore your city and have some fun.

Visit ottawa.ca/sports200 for full details and reservations. Visit ottawa200.ca to learn more about what’s happening in Ottawa’s big year.

OTTAWA — Opposition Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is expected to give a speech on Monday blaming separatist sentiment on the federal government and urging Canadians to “listen carefully” to the concerns of people who say “they want to leave.” Poilievre is in Calgary to deliver what his office has billed as a speech arguing for a “stronger Alberta within a united Canada.” He will urge the provinces to ‘lock arms’ and band together to change laws and regulations that are holding them back. “We do not need a different country, Alberta. We need different government policies in...
