If picking up the garbage shows pride in community, then the amount of garbage I see in my daily walks around the neighbourhood seems to indicate there are a lot of people in this city who just don’t care. Annually, just from the swale behind my house, I collect a full green garbage bag of what is mostly fast-food packaging and general litter. While daily cleaning my little part of the city is personally rewarding, there is nothing more frustrating to find that someone has decided to leave a midnight gift by dumping the contents of their car’s trash (again mostly fast-food containers) into the ditch.
