Ottawa Now - United Counties of Prescott-Russell bites back against Alto's plans, rejecting corporation's access to municipal land

The proposed high-speed rail line between Ottawa and Montreal is facing a roadblock east of Ottawa. The United Counties of Prescott-Russell is refusing to grant Alto access to municipal land to study the line. It has also declined to sign a non-disclosure agreement with Alto. The Crown corporation has already begun conducting environmental assessments on private properties for the proposed rail line, but has faced significant opposition from rural property owners and politicians from all levels of government. Joining Kristy Cameron on today's Ottawa Now is Clarence-Rockland Mayor Mario Zanth, who is also the Warden for the United Counties.
As Albertans prepare to test the idea of leaving Canada this coming October, their most attentive observers may be found about 3,500 kilometres away in Quebec, where sovereigntists will be studying the outcome for lessons into their own long-stalled project.
