Carney says plan 'settling in' as economy declines

In his first public comments on the state of the economy since Statistics Canada reported two consecutive quarters of economic decline, Prime Minister Mark Carney says the government's plan to build up the economy is still 'settling in.' Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, meanwhile, is accusing the prime minister of ducking hard questions on the state of the economy.
Prime Minister Mark Carney urged Canadians to remain united in a Canada Day speech in the nation's capital on Wednesday, but his plan to deliver similar remarks in Edmonton later in the day was upended by thunderstorms that prevented his plane from taking off on time.
