Ottawa directing CRTC to change course on online streaming act

Culture Minister Marc Miller says Ottawa is directing the CRTC to back down on its recent decision to triple streamers’ financial contributions to Canadian content, and will instead provide $600-million to the sector. The decision comes as the U.S. has identified the Online Streaming Act as a trade irritant.

In 1986, Canada set out to build its own helicopter. The goal was not just to replace the Royal Canadian Navy’s Sea Kings—so old that many entered service before the moon landings—but to rejuvenate a domestic industry.
