Ottawa Now - Calls growing for more portable toilets at Ottawa's city parks

June 4, 2026

It’s hard to stay at a park and cheer for your kid’s little-league team when nature calls, especially when there’s no bathroom to relieve yourself. In fact, in any outdoor situation with no restroom, that is not a pleasant thought to think of. A few years ago, Capital Ward councillor Shawn Menard brought a motion to City Council, calling for more porta-potty installations at Ottawa’s parks. And while the rollout has been present recently, he argues that the rollout isn’t big enough. Meantime, for 10 of the past 11 years, the Ottawa Patriots Baseball Club has paid for a portable toilet out-of-pocket whenever they have a ballgame going on. They are situated at Tauvette Park, located west of Orleans in Blackburn Hamlet. Co-President Paull Villeneuve also wants to see more action from the municipality, but is optimistic that future progress is around the corner. Menard and Villeneuve join Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
