Ottawa Now - General Burns Pool is one of many pieces to Ottawa's infrastructure case study

June 4, 2026

As we talked about during Monday’s program, the City of Ottawa is at a crossroads with its aging infrastructure, not to mention the realities of its financial situation. This week, the idea of an infrastructure levy was being pitched by City Staff, as the municipality examines a backlog of items that need repairs. From roads and parks, to arenas and pools, a lot of elbow grease and TLC is needed. And in the past, Ottawa hasn’t spent enough to maintain those municipal assets properly, as evidenced by an annual $1.2 billion shortfall. General Burns Pool – located in Sean Devine’s Knoxdale-Merivale Ward – is one piece of infrastructure that’s currently hanging by a thread. During the hottest week of the year last Summer, it was shut down due to overdue repairs. Devine joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
