Traffic impacts downtown on the morning of Monday, June 8

June 5, 2026

Some road closures are expected in the downtown core on Monday, June 8 for the installation ceremony of the Honourable Louise Arbour, 31st Governor General of Canada. Closures are expected from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Road closures: 

  • Wellington Street from O’Connor Street to Mackenzie Avenue
  • Metcalfe Street from Queen Street to Wellington Street
  • Queen Street from O’Connor Street to Elgin Street
  • Elgin Street from Albert Street to Wellington Street

Plan ahead and allow for extra time if you’re travelling to this area.

OC Transpo

Transit service will continue to be available, with some bus detours in place due to road closures during the ceremony. Starting at 8 am, Routes 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 606, and 616 will be on detour from Rideau Street via the Mackenzie King Bridge.

I celebrated Canada Day in Ottawa for the first time in 1982. I remember the sea of flags everywhere and on all government buildings. The atmosphere for the celebration on the Hill was fantastic. What has happened to this patriotism since then? I drove through the city last Saturday. Hardly any flags on the buildings or houses. Where is our pride?
