Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Tues. June 9th, 2026

June 9, 2026

The Ottawa Catholic School Board is making changes to its Bus Attendant Program later this month. This program involves having a support worker ride the school bus to assist students with special needs. Jennifer Bloom, a bus attendant herself, says they are ‘advocates’ for students. And if these positions are eliminated, she fears that safety on these bus rides would be ‘impossible’ to maintain. Kristy Cameron digs deeper with Sadie Lajoie in Hour 2. She is the parent of a Grade 1 student at Thomas Darcy McGee Elementary School, and her daughter is part of the Developmental Education Program. Meantime, there’s a popular notion that Summer is the time of year where most people disconnect and chill. It’s definitely not as bleak, or as isolating, as the Winter months can be. However, this season can bring its own unique pressures. From holidays to weddings, there’s more pressure on your bank account. That means your calendar is busier, and there’s more people to see. How do you navigate that mounting pressure to be present, but also the pressure on your pocketbook? Benslyne Avril, a psychotherapist who practices in Westboro, offers her insight. And finally, Ottawa’s bars and restaurants will be allowed to extend alcohol-serving hours on the day of our city’s 200th birthday. CFRA’s Chris Holski explains.
