'I've got goosebumps': Team Canada fans welcome their first World Cup

For many ardent soccer fans in Toronto, seeing a World Cup game on home soil has been a dream for years. Ahead of the city’s first match, the Voyageurs, a Canadian supporters group, marched through the streets waving the maple leaf and shooting plumes of red smoke in celebration. A Canadian-American artist from Ottawa has made a 4-foot-tall beaver statue for the United States. It’s part of the Great Beaver Quest – an art installation initiative that honours the countries participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. That statue, however, has been vandalized.
