Ottawa Now - Hockey Night In Canada, a timeless Saturday staple, no longer airing on Channel 8 after 75 years

June 16, 2026

When the new NHL season begins in October, Hockey Night In Canada will live on. However, the legendary Saturday night program has officially played its final shift on Channel 8. In a joint statement between Rogers Sportsnet and the CBC, Canada’s public broadcaster will no longer carry NHL games on Saturday nights, ending a tradition that has stood for 75 years. Kristy Cameron examines the bigger picture with Bill Brioux, a TV critic and podcaster, on Ottawa Now.

Prime Minister Mark Carney told National Post during a recent press conference that non-renewal on...

The issue of the finished-but-not-yet-opened Gordie Howe International Bridge continues to create ripples on both sides of the U.S.-Canada border, and far from the Michigan-Ontario crossing that is its epicentre. Among the more recent statements comes from Mike Levin, the Democratic incumbent from California’s 49th congressional district, serving in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2019. In a video posted to social media, Levin says: “There’s a brand new bridge between Detroit and Canada that is finished, it’s ready, and it’s sitting there empty because Donald Trump will not...
