Why are Qatari police in Vancouver?

A large squad of Qatari security officers, accompanied by camouflaged SUVs and light armoured vehicles, arrived in Vancouver ahead of Thursday’s FIFA World Cup match against Canada. The RCMP says the Qatari police are not allowed to carry their firearms within Canada and that the Mounties are closely collaborating with their foreign counterparts.
AC7664 was enroute from Newark to Halifax on Wednesday afternoon. The captain experienced a medical issue during the flight and it was diverted to Boston. Air Canada says it is working to help its 61 customers who were on the plane make new travel arrangements.

The meeting will determine whether the three countries want to either formally extend the agreement for 16 years or continue under annual reviews.
