B.C. says World Cup is boosting local economy, but some businesses report softer demand

As the FIFA World Cup passes its halfway mark, the B.C. government is touting the economic benefits of hosting the games in Vancouver but some local businesses say the boost has been uneven.
A new survey from Équité Association found just 18 per cent of respondents believe vehicles being sold today can withstand modern auto theft tactics.

The province's latest numbers suggest fires have burned through more than 7,250 square kilometres of Ontario's forest, surpassing the previous record set in 2021. Most of the burning has been in the past 10 days, and the forecast for August suggests much of northern Ontario could remain hotter and drier than normal.
