The YMCA of the National Capital Region and Commonwealth Games Canada are holding outdoor sports camps throughout the summer because they say newcomers to Canada often have questions like: How do I tap into the local sports league? Will I be asked to remove my hijab? What if I don’t understand the language well enough? The CBC's Omar Dabaghi-Pacheco spoke with athletes and volunteers about the power of sport to transcend language and culture.

Walk into a Toronto bar on a Friday night and some of the drinks in people’s hands have no alcohol in them at all. The customers holding them are not sober, just pacing themselves. The industry calls it ‘zebra striping’, alternating alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks during a night out.
