Man who allegedly strangled his girlfriend died of a heart attack while dumping her body: authorities
A man who allegedly strangled his girlfriend to death died while trying to dump her body in the woods, authorities have said.
Daniel Robbins, 44, of Georgia, is believed to have strangled his girlfriend, Jessica Folds, 47, of Alabama, to death, before he died of a heart attack.
Their bodies were found in Chambers County, Alabama, on June 10 at around 12:20 p.m. local time.
A statement shared on Facebook by Chambers County Alabama Sheriff’s Office said the couple were found in the woods together after deputies were called to County Road 86 in Lanett over an abandoned vehicle.
Authorities said the truck was still running and the driver’s side door was open, according to Alabama-based news outlet AL.com , which is the state’s largest digital news site and part of Alabama Media Group. There were also signs that something had been dragged from the truck into the woods, where the two bodies were found.
An investigation by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and an autopsy confirmed that Folds was strangled, and authorities said it appeared that Robbins was attempting to dispose of her body when he died, the outlet reported.
According to AL.com, District Attorney Mike Segrest said: “Based on the investigation by ALEA (Alabama Law Enforcement Agency) and the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, and the autopsy done by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, the female victim was strangled, and it appears the male was attempting to dispose of the body in a remote location.”
“He died of a heart attack while doing it,” he said. “Their bodies were right there together.”
Robbins’ ex-wife said that he had a pre-existing heart condition, according to local news channel WTVM .
WTVM said in a separate report that Folds’ body had been found with her arms raised above her head, while Robbins was next to her in the fetal position, according to Chambers County Sheriff Jeff Nelson.
Segrest said that there was no evidence to suggest where the strangulation took place, but that he believed it was a domestic incident, AL.com reported.
Based on the condition of the bodies and the fact that the truck was still running, he surmised the incident had unfolded the night before.
An obituary for Folds shared online said she “touched the lives of many with her heart of gold, deep love for everyone, and smile that brightened the world.”
She was a mother to three sons. Robbins was a father to a daughter.
