Like a noticeable chunk of Ottawa’s homeowners, Kristy Cameron returned from vacation to a rude awakening, as Canada’s Capital continues to clean up Mother Nature’s mess. The Canada Day floods have impacted almost 4,500 homes – an alarming statistic when you consider that the 2019 floods ravaged nearly 2,000 homes. In the days that have followed this Canada Day disaster, several local councillors and MPPs have penned an open letter to Queen’s Park, calling on the Ford government to make disaster relief funding available for residents. Mayor Mark Sutcliffe says the City of Ottawa will fully investigate what led to this wave of mass flooding, and analyze what can be done to prevent future waves from escalating.
