Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Tues. July 7th, 2026

July 7, 2026

A demonstration took place earlier today in North Grenville, where community groups are protesting the province's plan to build a new correctional facility on the grounds of the former Kemptville Agricultural College. The location is the designated site for the planned Eastern Ontario Correctional Complex, which the Ford government first announced in August 2020 as a 235-bed facility. Rally organizers allege that the province is neglecting the site's Heritage buildings and prime agricultural land. And now, they want the province to cancel the project and transfer the property to the municipality. Kristy Cameron chats with Victor Lachance, a member of the Coalition Against Proposed Prisons, in Hour 2. Meantime, are you caught in a loop of endless 'what-ifs'? In the latest edition of Self-Help Tuesday with psychotherapist Benslyne Avril, we dive into the trap of overthinking, and uncover how we can finally break the cycle. Plus, it’s been a rollercoaster 24 hours for local hockey fans. The day started with Claude Giroux’s return to the Ottawa Senators, as the 38-year-old inked a 1-year deal to remain in Kanata. But then, hours later, another dose of heartache followed, as the most decorated Ottawa Senator departs Palladium Drive for the third time. And this time, Daniel Alfredsson is leaving Ottawa’s coaching staff to join the Toronto Maple Leafs as an Associate Head Coach. Is the dressing room as united as we thought? TSN 1200’s Gord Wilson and CFRA’s Chris Holski analyze a tough few weeks for Sens Army.
