Alberta-Ontario pipeline proposal faces criticism over costs, need and lack of Indigenous consultation

A recent proposal to build a new pipeline from Alberta to Ontario is drawing support from the president of the municipal association representing more than 100 cities and towns across northeastern Ontario. But an oil industry expert says the project faces major economic hurdles, and the Anishinabek Nation says it was “blindsided” by the announcement.

B.C. has recorded the sharpest increase in drowning deaths, higher than any other provinces in Canada this year, according to the B.C. and Yukon Lifesaving Society. It says at least 30 people have drowned in the province so far in 2026, a 50 per cent increase from the same point last year.
