Crown won’t prosecute some charges laid in Project South police corruption investigation

Superior court indictments filed for eight of those accused in the police corruption investigation known as Project South list 33 fewer charges against them than what they were originally charged with by police earlier this year. Screening and streamlining charges in this way is a normal part of the prosecution process to ensure the Crown pursues the best case it can, according to current and former prosecutors.
Tourism officials note that, despite last week's smoke, much of this summer has been relatively smoke-free.

A CBC News investigation has identified the Canadian woman arrested last week in Belgium on espionage charges as Biwei Zhang, a systems engineer who has previously worked for the Canadian Space Agency and Statistics Canada. Identifying information from Zhang's social media profiles, graduate thesis and a federal court case matched Belgian authorities' description of the NATO intern apprehended on Friday.
