Additional recovery information sessions for residents impacted by the July 1 extreme weather event
Recovery information sessions are continuing for residents impacted by the July 1 extreme weather.
City staff and its partners, including the Canadian Red Cross, will be present to support residents by answering questions on various topics and providing support related to the extreme weather event and recovery, including:
- Information on counselling and wellness supports
- Health and safety when cleaning flooded homes
- Insurance and case management experts
- Residential Protective Plumbing and Compassionate Grant programs
- Building code and permitting process
- Financial assistance and grant programs
- Waste disposal
Additional services may be offered for the July 28 and 30 sessions and will be communicated as soon as possible.
Upcoming information sessions:- Friday, July 24 at Ben Franklin Place, second floor, 101 Centrepointe Drive, from 2 to 6 pm
- Saturday, July 25 at Ben Franklin Place, second floor, 101 Centrepointe Drive, from 10 am to 2 pm
- Sunday, July 26 at John G. Mlacak Centre, 2500 Campeau Drive, from 1 to 5 pm
- Tuesday, July 28 at Ben Franklin Place, second floor, 101 Centrepointe Drive, from 2 to 6 pm
- Thursday, July 30 at Ben Franklin Place, second floor, 101 Centrepointe Drive, from 2 to 6 pm
Note: On Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25, City staff will be on site on the second floor at Ben Franklin Place to assist residents with completing applications for the Compassionate Grant Program and the Residential Protective Plumbing Program.
For assistance applying to the Compassionate Grant Program, please review your eligibility and bring the following with you to the session, if available:
- Documentation confirming ownership or tenancy of the property during the basement flooding event
- A copy of two or more of the following items as proof of damage or costs over $1,000:
- Photos demonstrating the extent of basement flooding or damage to household goods or appliances that clearly show the date, locations, and extent of damage
- Copy of an insurance claim
- Paid invoice for the rental or purchase of equipment such as a dehumidifier, wet/dry vacuum, portable blower, portable storage container
- Paid invoice for the purchase of services such as professional cleaning, professional repair or replacement of appliances, waste disposal or water removal
For assistance applying to the Residential Protective Plumbing Program, please review your eligibility and bring the following with you to the session, if available:
- Documentation confirming ownership of the property
- Copy of the building permit and Building Code Services inspection report
- Copy of the paid, itemized invoice for installation of protective plumbing devices

If you are unable to take conventional transit (buses and O-Train), Para Transpo is available between 6 am and midnight. Para Transpo fees will be waived for individuals traveling to and from the information sessions.
Free public parking is available on site for those travelling by car to the information sessions.
