In-person and virtual support available for residents impacted by July 1 extreme weather event

Support sessions on August 4 and 6, and continuing Canadian Red Cross supports

Additional recovery support sessions will be held next week. Over the past several weeks, we’ve held almost 40 combined information hubs and sessions, and met with over 2,000 residents impacted by the extreme weather event on July 1.

Recovery support sessions

City-led support sessions are continuing next week:

  • Tuesday, August 4 from 1 to 5 pm, second floor, Ben Franklin Place (101 Centrepointe Drive)
  • Thursday, August 6 from 1 to 5 pm, second floor, Ben Franklin Place (101 Centrepointe Drive)

Residents can drop-in to receive one-on-one support with:

  • Compassionate Grant Program applications and questions
  • Residential Protective Plumbing Program applications and questions
  • Backwater valve permits and related permitting questions
  • General legal information to help residents better understand their options

Canadian Red Cross

Starting Friday, July 31, and continuing until at least the end of August, case management teams from the Canadian Red Cross are available for virtual and in-person support to impacted households.

Support is available from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on the second floor of Ben Franklin Place. Please note, support is not available on Colonel By Day on Monday, August 3.

The Canadian Red Cross can help residents:

  • Connect with and understand community resources
  • Access information and referrals
  • Navigate clean-up, repair and rebuilding activities
  • Understand insurance and construction (virtual support only)

Residents are encouraged to make an appointment to meet with a Canadian Red Cross representative by calling 1-800-863-6582 or by sending an email to NavigationSupportON@redcross.ca. Walk-in visits are also welcome.

More opportunities to connect with the Canadian Red Cross beyond August will be shared at a later date.
