The Canada Day flooding that hammered Ottawa’s West End could lead to a partial opening of the Western LRT Extension, as opposed to the planned full opening. That’s according to a transit executive. Randall Denley's op-ed (Ottawa Citizen, Aug. 15, 2026) analyzes the recent Government of Ontario's population projections for Ottawa, where our city is expected to expand from the current 1.19 million population to 1.83 million in 2051, an increase of over 600,000 people. Several Canadian cities are pursuing bylaws to restrict the sale of invasive plants by garden centres and nurseries. Advocates with the Canadian Coalition for Invasive Plant Regulation say a federal horticulture body and invasive plant database would help a biodiversity crisis in the making.
