SIU no longer investigates most off-duty sex assault complaints. Advocates fear fewer people will come forward

August 6, 2026

Researchers say changes to the Ontario police watchdog’s investigative mandate may be behind the decline and advocates warn it could result in fewer people reporting police-involved sexual assaults to law enforcement.
