Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Fri. August 7th, 2026

August 7, 2026

The Ottawa Police Service is conducting e-scooter enforcement blitzes in Findlay Creek and Riverside South. As you might expect, they are on the lookout for e-scooter and e-bike drivers who aren’t following the rules. Here in Canada’s Capital, the age requirement to drive an e-scooter is 16 years old. For anyone under the age of 18, you must be riding with a helmet and obey a host of other regulations. But in Nova Scotia, they are looking at a U14 ban for both e-scooters and e-bikes. We open that can of worms with Ottawa Police Sergeant Josh Callaghan, who works for the department’s Road Safety Unit. Later in the program, we also check in with Beacon Hill-Cyrville councillor Tim Tierney. Meantime, nothing beats the Summer heat like a cool and refreshing glass of lemonade. A trio of guests in Hour 1 are mastering their trade this weekend, raising money for the CHEO Construction Cares Parade. In fact, they are already on track to raise over $10,000 as part of their stand. We check in with Nick Bray, his 8-year-old son Lochlan, and his 5-year-old son Callum. But first, we bring you up to speed on today’s top headlines.
