Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Fri. August 7th, 2026

August 7, 2026

The Ottawa Police Service is conducting e-scooter enforcement blitzes in Findlay Creek and Riverside South. As you might expect, they are on the lookout for e-scooter and e-bike drivers who aren’t following the rules. Here in Canada’s Capital, the age requirement to drive an e-scooter is 16 years old. For anyone under the age of 18, you must be riding with a helmet and obey a host of other regulations. But in Nova Scotia, they are looking at a U14 ban for both e-scooters and e-bikes. We open that can of worms with Ottawa Police Sergeant Josh Callaghan, who works for the department’s Road Safety Unit. Later in the program, we also check in with Beacon Hill-Cyrville councillor Tim Tierney. Meantime, nothing beats the Summer heat like a cool and refreshing glass of lemonade. A trio of guests in Hour 1 are mastering their trade this weekend, raising money for the CHEO Construction Cares Parade. In fact, they are already on track to raise over $10,000 as part of their stand. We check in with Nick Bray, his 8-year-old son Lochlan, and his 5-year-old son Callum. But first, we bring you up to speed on today’s top headlines.

LaGrange said she was especially concerned to see the reporting reference...

The Toronto Tempo of the WNBA revealed their much-anticipated mascots this week, but many fans aren’t rushing to give them a hug. Some commentators online see Dez the snapping turtle and Dot the arctic hare as unsettling and uninspired.
