Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Mon. August 10th, 2026
August 10, 2026
60 years ago today, a devastating crash shattered an Ottawa afternoon, and forever changed Canadian labor history. On this day in 1966, the partially-built Heron Road Bridge collapsed, killing 9 workers and injuring over 50. It was one of the worst construction disasters in North American history. Today, community members and survivors gathered at the site to ensure those lives are never forgotten. Guest host Chris Holski digs deeper with Sean McKenny, the President of the Ottawa and District Labour Council. Plus, it’s a humid August day in Canada’s Capital, and that means we’ve got another thunderstorm to track. We gather the latest developments from Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson.
