Increasingly severe wildfire seasons are a public safety concern in Newfoundland and Labrador, while also having implications for regular activities in rural and remote areas, including geoscience work essential for the mining sector.

The meeting being arranged by the Quebec premier and CAQ leader for Monday night comes as Canada prepares to impose retaliatory tariffs on a wide range of U.S. goods the following day. The tariffs will range from 15 to 50 per cent and apply to products including dairy, steel, copper and some beauty products.
