Prison watchdog role left vacant for months, even after outgoing investigator warned of 'serious legal void'

Prime Minister Mark Carney's government left the position of Canada's prison watchdog vacant for several months, despite written warnings from the outgoing correctional investigator that leaving the position vacant would seriously compromise the office's powers to do its job protecting inmates.
'These are dangerous, high-speed, off-highway vehicles that need to be ridden out in the back 40 and not in the cities,' RCMP said of electric dirt bikes on municipal streets.
