A severe thunderstorm on Monday afternoon delivered heavy rain and a brief Tornado Warning to Canada’s Capital. According to Environment Canada, 23.5 millimetres of rain was recorded at the Ottawa Airport. And while it wasn’t nearly as insane as what we saw on Canada Day, it still affected many residents and it put flooded-affected areas on edge. Does our city have a stormwater infrastructure problem? Has this transformed into an election issue as we head into October? Kristy Cameron sifts through the CFRA textboard and tackles today’s Question of the Day. Activist lawyers are aiming to leverage a recent court ruling to dramatically increase income assistance levels for homeless welfare recipients in Nova Scotia who live only in tents, trailers or their cars. Dalhousie Legal Aid Service has prepared a guide encouraging the homeless to apply for expanded benefits after the court ruled that a Halifax tent dweller was eligible for enhanced income assistance.
