A batch of new Trump tariffs are slated to hit Canada within the next 30 days, and some of Canada’s CUSMA-protected exports will be feeling the pain this time. How significant, you may ask? How about a 50% tax? Once again, meeting with the media today, America’s President said that Canada can’t survive without the United States. So how should Canada respond this time? Kristy Cameron sifts through the CFRA textboard and tackles today’s Question of the Day. Meantime, it’s been 20 days since a massive downpour destroyed thousands of basements and properties in Canada’s Capital. The Ford government has rolled out DRAO funding for some of the affected areas, but some of the hardest-hit communities are still scrambling for help. We check in with Jennifer Johnston, who lives in Crystal Beach. She is currently ineligible for DRAO funding, and she doesn’t have any insurance or flood coverage.

OTTAWA — An Ontario company that is being threatened by a massive retroactive tax bill because its golf carts were categorized by Ottawa as electric vehicles (EVs) isn’t alone. At least one other Canadian company that also has its motorized push carts manufactured in China says it has also received a tax bill from Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) that is large enough to threaten its business. Hanson Xie, director of operations of Markham, Ont.-based Axglo Inc., says the federal government has told his company to pay about $500,000 in back taxes for the importation of its carts....
