Ambassador Bridge owner Matthew Moroun sought a meeting with senior Canadian officials as the bridge's nearly century-old monopoly on commercial traffic between Windsor and Detroit faced a new competitor. Government records reveal why Ottawa agreed to listen, but much of what Moroun wanted remains secret.

The meeting being arranged by the Quebec premier and CAQ leader for Monday night comes as Canada prepares to impose retaliatory tariffs on a wide range of U.S. goods the following day. The tariffs will range from 15 to 50 per cent and apply to products including dairy, steel, copper and some beauty products.
