Ottawa Now - As trade war escalates, Vermont ski resort calls for Canadian tourists to come back

August 28, 2026

As Canada continues its tug-of-war with the United States, business owners in both countries are feeling the burn, and they are collectively worried about what the future holds. For tourism destinations, in particular, the tit-for-tat tariffs are really adding up. A ski resort in Jay, Vermont recently posted a message on Instagram, calling for Canadian tourists to come back. That’s because it relies heavily on its strong community of Canadian skiers, riders, and visitors – fewer of whom have been dropping by since the trade war began last year. And without them, money is getting tighter and tighter. Steve Wright is the President and General Manager of Jay Peak Resort – located just 4 hours away from Canada’s Capital. He joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
