Ottawa Now - Ford government to introduce support offices at all school boards

September 1, 2026

Education Minister Paul Calandra says the province is opening student and family support offices at every school board across Ontario. He made the announcement in Hamilton – on the first day of school for most students and teachers. Calandra adds that all 72 school boards have to report to Ontario’s Education Ministry on a monthly basis. He insists that Queen’s Park is promising an efficient and streamlined approach to dealing with problems at school – a clear path forward to all forms of resolution. Now, last year, these support offices were introduced at 5 school boards – all of which had been taken over by the province and still remain under government supervision. David Mastin is the President of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario. He fears that this move is a power-grab by the Ford PC’s, and one that kicks democracy to the curb. Mastin joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
