Ottawa Now - A.I. researcher sends startling message as he jumps ship from Anthropic

September 10, 2026

A researcher who worked at Anthropic and OpenAI says Artificial Intelligence could erase humanity as we know it – and sooner than we think. Jacob Coxon announced his resignation in a chilling and alarming post on X last night, criticizing both companies for the way they are developing Artificial Intelligence. He says that neither company is acting responsibly, and that the people building it ‘earnestly believe’ that it could ‘kill us all’ before the 2020’s wrap up. When asked to comment earlier today, Canada’s A.I. Minister Evan Solomon says it’s important that Canada implements meaningful regulations for Artificial Intelligence. What should we make of these soundbites, and how should Canada prepare for this potential reality? Tech analyst Carmi Levy joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
