Ottawa Now - O-Train East Extension to begin 'pre-trial running'

September 11, 2026

In the early stages of October, OC Transpo plans to begin pre-trial running on the O-Train East Extension. At least, that is the plan. And that light-rail line, once completed and given the green light by the proper authorities, will eventually bring LRT commuters all the way to Orleans. However, we still don’t have a firm timeline to open it, and OC Transpo GM Rick Leary isn’t committing to any exact dates at this time. First things first, we have to go through 21 days of testing, and that run needs to be flawless. If a problem occurs, we have to start at Day 1 all over again. If all goes well, then maybe a grand opening in November is within reach. What would count as a disqualifying incident during this crucial phase? How severe of a setback are we talking? Kristy Cameron poses that question to Orleans West-Innes councillor Laura Dudas on Ottawa Now. The councillor is cautiously reassured and optimistic about today’s developments because some degree of preliminary testing has already been conducted, and she remains hopeful that future performances will have the desired outcome.
