CHARLOTTETOWN — Ottawa has to step up its share of Canadian health-care funding, several Canadian premiers insisted on Wednesday. The premiers of P.E.I., New Brunswick and Manitoba said they want to see the federal government return to splitting health-care funding 50/50 with the provinces, a formula that stood until the 1970s when it was lowered in exchange for tax points and block funding. Hate crimes in Canada fell last year for the first time since 2018, but Jewish Canadians remained one of the most-targeted groups. Police reported 4,708 hate crimes in 2025, down three per cent from 4,841 the year before, Statistics Canada said Wednesday.
