Instead of combating computer bugs, Google is taking up a new focus, seeking U.S. government permission to actually release a lot of pesky bugs — mosquitoes. The tech company wants to release 32 million of the insects in California and Florida over the next two years as part of an ongoing AI-driven health initiative it calls the Debug Project . The goal is to control mosquito populations and cut down on mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue and Zika.
