A 41-year-old Halifax man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his mother after the two argued over the subtitles on a video she was watching.Jonathan William Pinsky pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in April, admitting he experienced a “fit of rage” when he punched and kicked his 71-year-old mother, before stabbing her neck.

OTTAWA — The Carney government is poised to post a massive deficit of more than $92 billion during this fiscal year, a new report from a well-respected financial think tank projects, almost double what was forecast just a few months ago by a non-partisan arm of the government.
The report, from the C.D. Howe Institute, also forecasts deficits of more than $77 billion a year over the next four years, also huge increases over what had been expected.

Politicians of all stripes from Alberta gathered on Thursday morning to flip the first pancakes of the Calgary Stampede.
