For a second straight year, the Algonquin College Board of Governors has approved a significant series of programming cuts. This time, 30 programs have been halted. Monday’s judgement day comes as the Ottawa-based post-secondary institution continues to grapple with funding shortfalls and a decline in International enrollment. Judy Puritt, the first Vice-President of OPSEU Local 415, represents roughly 900 of Algonquin’s faculty members. She also teaches Business Communications at the college, and joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.

Despite new funding from the Ontario government, and Premier Ford lifting a gut-punching tuition freeze, Algonquin College’s Board of Governors has decided to execute another series of program suspensions. Just one year after the last round of cuts, another 30 programs will be on the chopping block this time, with the college citing ‘financial mitigation measures’ as the reason why.
