The Civic Hospital Neighbourhood Association is a volunteer, non-profit community group representing approximately 2000 households adjacent to the Civic campus of The Ottawa Hospital. It was established in 1982. Our mission is to promote and protect the general interests and wellbeing of the neighbourhood’s residents and to be a voice for the community on issues of general concern, such as traffic, safety, and planning and development.

We organize or support community meetings and social events, and communicate local news and information through newsletters, e-mail distributions and our website.

Membership in the Association is open to any household within the neighbourhood’s boundaries: Hwy 417 on the north, Railway St. on the east, Carling Ave. on the south, and Island Park Dr. on the west,

Re: St. Patrick Street Bicycle Lanes

Dear Mayor Watson:

The Civic Hospital Neighbourhood Association supports the Lowertown CA, Vanier CA, and Beechwood Village CA in their call for better bike lane infrastructure on St. Patrick St., whether it be segregated bike lanes or multi-use pathways (MUP).

Given the safety concerns at certain intersections along St. Patrick and the sheer volume of vehicular traffic down that street, it seems to make good sense to install segregated cycling lane infrastructure or MUP's now, while the road is being resurfaced anyway. It would also provide a significant enhancement to what is already an important east-west part of the Primary Urban Cycling Network.

And, it would be another concrete example of the City's commitment to the Complete Streets concept. Complete Streets can and should be attempted based on need and opportunity when resurfacing work is being done, not just when they are being completely rehabilitated. Citizens can't wait that long on critical routes like St. Patrick.
